Saint Peray "Fleur de Roc" 2009
90 Points
by the Wine Spectator, June 15th, 2011

Ripe but very pure, with unadorned white peach, yellow apple and floral notes that sail along, carrying through the long, creamy finish. Drink now through 2012. 1,150 cases made. -JM

Terroir:

The 65-hectare Appellation Saint Péray is situated in the Northern Côtes-du-Rhône, right bank, just south of Cornas. Saint Péray benefits from a continental climate with Mediterranean influence. The soil is composed of granite, chalk and clay. The yield is 45 hl / ha

Grape Varietal:

Marsanne (50 %) and Roussanne (50%).

Vinification:

Grapes are selected from old vines (over 60 years old) grown on the most beautiful terraces of the appellation. Partially fermented in French oak barrels, followed by 12 months ageing (all the Roussanne + Marsanne for part). Traditional lees stirring. Blending and bottling in the Spring.

Style:

Pale yellow colour, with green hue.

Mineral nose with white flower (acacia), and grilled notes.

Rich and ample on the palate, a sign of perfect ripeness of the grapes. Toasted aromas, melt with ripe yellow fruits (peach, apricot and guava), with a refreshing and long finish.

Food Pairing:

Serve at 52ºF Crayfish or asparagus in sauce. Goes as well with a creamy poultry, Mediterranean dishes. Delicious chilled as an aperitif too.
